History of Mughal Gardens?
In the British Raj, in the year 1911, when the British made Delhi their capital instead of Kolkata, it was decided to build the Viceroy's House (the present Rashtrapati Bhavan) by cutting the hill of Raisina. British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens was specially called from England to make it, who designed the Viceroy House.

Sir Edwin Lutyens started building the Viceroy's House from the year 1917. To enhance the beauty of the Viceroy House, a special garden was created, where many types of flowers and plants and tree species were planted. Although it is also said that at that time Lady Hardinge, wife of Viceroy Lord Hardinge, did not like this garden. The Mughal Garden was completed in the year 1928, the work of planting went on from 1928 to 1929.

Why was the name named after the Mughals?
The Mughal Empire started in Delhi after Babur's attack in the 16th century. After this Humayun, Akbar, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb took over the throne of Delhi. During this time, the Mughals got gardens built all over the country. Built more than one thousand (about 1200) gardens in Delhi. Later the British merged Mughal traditions with English aesthetics. This is the reason why it was named after the Mughals. The design of the Mughal Gardens is inspired by the Taj Mahal and the gardens of Jammu and Kashmir. The Mughal Gardens are divided into four parts – Quadrilateral Bagh, Talla Bagh, Curtain Bagh and Circular Bagh.

When the Mughal Garden was opened for the common people for the first time,
only special people were destined to see this garden in the British Raj. The British rulers used to take their guests for a tour of this garden, but on 26 January 1950, the day came when the Republic was established in India and Dr. Rajendra Prasad was made the President of India (He was the President from 26 January 1950 to 14 May 1962). stay on). The name of Viceroy's House was changed to Rashtrapati Bhavan. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of independent India, had given 'freedom' to the common people to see the Mughal Gardens. Since then till today this garden is opened for the common people every year in the spring.

Every year lakhs of people wait for the opening of the Mughal Garden of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
